He . . said drivers then become confused as to who has the right-of-way there. Lu Leake, the assistant vice president for administration and planning, said a small railing or other type of pedestrian barrier, such as a hedge, might be placed on the SFAC side of the present crosswalk to dissuade pedestrians from crossing the street at that point. Moore said the landscape committee is ready to do whatever is needed to guide people in the right direction for crossing to the SFAC. The portion of the sidewalk from the SFAC which leads to the Ii.resent crosswalk across Wake Forest Drive would be removed. Leake said the purpose of moving the crosswalk was to make crossing the street to or from the SFAC less dangerous for students and other pedestrians. Leake said: "I think it's helpful. It doesn't solve all the problems, but we would like the reactions of students [to the proposed move]." The department of university security is the only one which has officially re.~ponded in favor of the plan, Moore said. Anti-Discrimination Law Effect on Colleges:, Predicted Minimal College Press Service The new law to force colleges not to discriminate probably won't change things in the near future for campus women and minorities, various observers predict. They say ifs because colleges already try to provide equal opportunities for people and because they don't expect the U.S. Department of Education, which is supposed to enforce the law, will pursue it aggressively.
